I stated in my last article that God has to be the one who knows what is right. The next question is, how do we know what God thinks? We need some authority on this matter. There seems to be no end of people or prophets who claim to know about God and Heaven. The problem is, how do we know these people are telling the truth? The Bible teaches that we are not to act on the testimony of one witness.
One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
Deuteronomy 19:15
So how about having a witness of forty men? That is what the Bible gives us. Forty men contributed to the writing of the Bible, which took place over a period of about 1500 years. What is impressive is that the Bible is a story perfectly woven together. I have heard people tell me that you cannot trust the Bible because men wrote it. That is precisely why we should believe it. Isn’t that how we would expect to receive it? It is written by men because it is for men. Can you think of a better way for God to communicate with us? The Bible is an old book, and that should be a testament that it is from God. God wanted humans from all of history to understand the truth.
2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.
2 Peter 1:21
It is only reasonable that if we are created, the Creator would want us to understand why we are here. A person seeking to understand the world and how to live has to start somewhere. Thousands of years of humanity, including myself, have appreciated that God gave us this book. It is my suggestion that you give it a significant consideration before you choose to move on to something else.
