Why Do You Believe There Is A God

Is A or B Correct?

A is the correct answer. Not that B is entirely wrong. The Bible says, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” The word God is Elohim, a generic term for God or gods. It is therefore assumed one believes in a God or gods. It is not until chapter two, verse four, that a name is given to God (Lord, Yahweh, Jehovah).

God expects you to believe in Him because of the creation.

1 The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament sheweth his handywork.
2 Day unto day uttereth speech,
And night unto night sheweth knowledge.
There is no speech nor language,
Where their voice is not heard.

Romans 1:20

20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Psalm 19:1–3

3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Hebrews 11:3

A person who grew up not believing the Bible is the word of God Would have trouble believing the Bible. Without a belief there is a God, the Bible is subject to skepticism, namely miracles. Miracles are impossible if one does not believe in a God, and the Bible is a fairytale.

If one believes in God because of the Bible, they believe in a God created by a book. If the book can be dismissed, then the God of it is too. That is how many have become atheists. They are not convinced there is a God from Creation; they reject the Bible and the God of it.

B is true because the Bible teaches us to believe more about God. It tells us things about God that nature cannot reveal. So in a way, B is correct because we can have greater faith that there is a God. After all, we believe in the Bible.

We have a crucial distinction that must be maintained in a world of unbelievers. If lost people are told to believe in God because the Bible says they should, we have failed them. If we preach morality from the Bible, but people do not believe in the God of the Bible, it is meanless. Put it this way, could we convince someone to live according to a book of fiction? The Bible is a fiction book if there is no God behind it. Words are meaningless; only the character of those who spoke them makes them real.
